英語で「久しぶり」はどのように表現するのでしょうか？

人と会う「久しぶり」

カジュアルな表現

おそらく Long time no see! を思い浮かべる方が多いと思いますが、ネイティブはそこまで使わないようです。

わざわざ「久しぶり」という言い回しを使わなくても、 Hi! や How are you? で十分だったりします。

How are you?	「ご機嫌いかが」
It’s great to see you.	「会えて嬉しいよ」
It’s (=It has) been a while.	a while は「しばらくの間」
It’s (=It has) been a long time.	半年から一年以上の「長い間」
It’s (=It has) been so long.	とっても時間が経っている
Nice to see you (again).	既に知っている人に会う場合は meet ではなく see を使います

現在完了を使うことで、現在との関係を表し「ずっと〜だった」という意味になります。

Haven’t seen you in years.
（何年かぶりだね。）

Haven’t heard from you for a long time.
（長いこと連絡がなかったね。）

It’s been a while since we last met.
（前に会ってから久しぶりだね。）

It’s been quite a while since we had a party.
（パーティー以来、本当に久しぶりだね。）

I’m so glad I got to see you! I’ll contact you again soon.
（久しぶりに会えて良かった。また連絡するね。）

フォーマルな表現

ビジネスの場で使えるフォーマルな言い方です。

Good to see you again.
（お久しぶりです。）

I haven’t seen you for a long time.
（ご無沙汰しております。）

It is a pleasure to see you after such a long time.
（久しぶりにお会いできて嬉しいです。）

何かをするのが「久しぶり」

〜してからしばらく経っている	It’s been a while since . . .
	It’s been a long time since . . .
しばらく〜していない	I haven’t 過去分詞 for quite a while
	for the first time in quite a while.
	for the first time in a long time

「〜してからしばらく経っている」

It’s been a while since I’ve had pasta.
（久しぶりにパスタを食べた。）

It’s been a long time since I last spoke French.
（久しくフランス語を話していない。）

「しばらく〜していない」

I got a call from her for the first time in a long time.
（彼女から久しぶりに電話があった。）

I took a nap this afternoon for the first time in quite a while.
（久しぶりにお昼寝をした。）

My muscles are sore from playing tennis because I haven’t played for quite a while.
（久しぶりにテニスをしたら筋肉痛になってしまった。）

POINT

since：【接続詞】(通例現在完了形と共に) 〜以来、(理由・原因) 〜なので、〜だから／【前置詞】〜以来、〜以降

会話例

A. Hi, how have you been??
（やあ、元気にしてた？）

B. I’m great. You look great too! I just got back from USJ. It was really fun!
（元気よ。あなたも元気そうね。ちょうどUSJから帰ってきたの。とても楽しかったわ。）

A. That’s good! It’s been a while since I’ve been there.
（それは良かったね。USJは久しく行っていないな。）
