日本の「パブ」「ダイニングバー」ともいわれる大衆酒場、「Izakaya / 居酒屋」。
お仕事を終えたサラリーマンや、若い人たちの交流の場として独自の文化を生み出しています。

海外では「飲み放題」が禁止されている国が多く、低価格で好きなだけお酒を飲むことができる日本の居酒屋に驚愕する人が多いようです。

また、日本では当たり前になっている「店員さん呼び出しボタン」も、海外の方々がびっくりするシステムのひとつです。

そんな居酒屋の定番メニューを英語で説明する表現をまとめましたので、ご参考になれば幸いです。

居酒屋の簡単な説明

居酒屋の最も簡単な言い方としては、

Japanese style pub(日本式のパブ)
Japanese-style dining bar(日本風のダイニングバー)

がありますが、もう少し説明を加えて分かりやすくすると以下のような表現があります。

お通し(突き出し)

お通しは一般的に、small appetizer または an automatic appetizer などと訳されます。

It is an appetizer that comes with your first drink.
(最初のお飲み物と一緒に供されるおつまみです。)

It is charged onto the bill as a kind of entry fee.
入店料 / チャージとしてお会計に加算されます。)

Otōshi is part of the table charge.
(お通しは席料の一種です。)

Pointお通しは、自動的に供されるうえに有料なので、外国人のお客さんとトラブルになることもあるようです。
必要であれば、お通しが「席料」の一種であることを伝えるのも良いでしょう。

ご飯もの、麺もの

「ご飯にお茶をかけて、美味しいの!?」と驚かれる可能性がありますので、「お茶」の代わりに「出汁のスープ」、そして様々なトッピングがあることを伝えるのも良いでしょう。
